“Grr, another meeting” Yes, I know the feeling. Several online meetings a day are exhausting! What can you do to make sure the meetings are productive and don’t go over time?
- Set expectations: let everyone know the purpose of TODAY’S meeting.
- State what the expected outcome of TODAY’S meeting will be.
- Give a brief outline of the meeting’s contents
- Make sure everyone knows how what is expected in regards to being on camera, interjecting, going over, etc.
- If you have someone that wants to take the meeting in another direction, say something like, “I can hear how important x is to you, Dave. If we pursue this issue now, we won’t achieve the goal of today’s meeting. Is that ok with you/everyone?”
- Finally, turn your camera on and ask others to do the same. Team members will be much more apt to participate and listen if it is. If you are to exhausted for this option, meet via phone instead!
